Background and Purpose
Gahini Rehabilitation Center (GRC) is a Rwandan Local Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) started in 1969 and got registered as a faith-based organization on 20th Jan. 2020, whose mission is to offer comprehensive rehabilitation services to Persons with Disabilities by creating an enabling environment in such a way that persons with disabilities can realize their full potential.
Gahini Rehabilitation Center (GRC) is located in Kayonza District and offers comprehensive rehabilitation services including physiotherapy, occupational therapy, orthopedic surgery, orthopedic appliances (prosthesis & orthesis), Community Based Rehabilitation program and outreach activities to assist persons with disabilities at the center level and in the community. The Ministry of Health in partnership with CBM is supporting GRC to become a national referral center of excellence for rehabilitation services.
With this background, we are looking for passionate, qualified and experienced Rwandese candidates to fulfill the following three vacant positions. The incumbents will be employees of the Gahini Rehabilitation Center (GRC) with a contract of one (1) year renewable depending on work performance and funds availability.
Position 1: Physiotherapists (2)
Reports to: HoD, Physiotherapy Department
Location: Gahini Rehabilitation Center (GRC), Kayonza District
JOB SUMMARY:
Physiotherapists working in GRC treat patients, especially children, who are suffering from physical restraints and disabilities as a result of illness, injury, aging, congenital factors or other factors. They will work with patients to identify what is causing problems for them and create treatment and rehabilitation plans to help the patient gain back their strength and mobility. The physiotherapists provide patients with functional rehabilitative therapy using GRC physiotherapy equipment where applicable.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE PHYSIOTHERAPISTS:
- To restore GRC patient’s function, to alleviate pain, and to prevent disabilities by planning and administering prescribed physical therapy.
- To provide quality care by assessing and interpreting test results and determine physical therapy treatment plans in consultation with GRC physicians or by prescription.
- In consultation with the Orthopaedic workshop technologists, recommend, prescribe and assist in the use of assistive (mobility) devices in order to obtain full functionality.
- To educate GRC patients and their families about the recovery process and the challenges they will face
- To assist and demonstrate appropriate functional home exercises and equipment use.
- To collaborate with GRC patient doctors for referrals, client notes, and medical history
- To review and evaluate patients through tests, movements, and conversation
- To discuss a patient’s follow-up plans with physicians, surgeons, and healthcare team
- To manage hardware requirements and products necessary for its activity;
- To participate in meetings and other activities of the GRC.
EDUCATION, TECHNICAL SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:
- A physiotherapy degree approved by the Ministry of Education of Rwanda
- Professional registration as a chartered physiotherapist.
- Knowledge in physiotherapy techniques and management of physio equipment and products
- Proven work experience in pediatric and adult physiotherapy.
- The ability to build rapport with patients from a variety of backgrounds and communicate with their relatives and carers.
- Commitment to the goals and values of GRC
- Ability to manage patients with different types of personalities
- Must have cross-cultural experience and strong interpersonal skills to work with such children, adults at risk, safeguarding and disability inclusion.
- Excellent Oral/writing skills in Kinyarwanda and English; knowledge of French is preferred.
- Experience and willingness to work in a rural health center/ hospital setting
- Tolerance and patience and Collaborate with GRC departments.
