About One Acre Fund

Founded in 2006, One Acre Fund supplies 1 million smallholder farmers with the agricultural services they need to make their farms more productive. We provide quality farm supplies on credit, delivered within walking distance of farmers’ homes, and agricultural training to improve harvests. We measure our success by our ability to make farmers more prosperous: On average, farmers harvest 50 percent more food after working with One Acre Fund.

Job Description

You will be in charge of our district operation in one of the mentioned districts where you will manage 3 to 4 people. Your main goal will be the success of the P-shop program in your district. 

Your responsibilities as Shop Director would include:

  • Oversee field execution of program activities, both in-the-field and in-store; spend a majority of days “in the field” to guarantee an understanding of our farmers, our program, and our partners
  • Connect daily work with the vision and goals of the PShop program
  • Train and coaches all staff, especially the Managers
  • Oversee Managers to accomplish shop-level targets, through a weekly meeting(s).
  • Help Managers to identify their field visit priorities. This is important since Managers each manage 5-6 shops and officers, and thus have less than one day per week to visit each officer.
  • Conduct bi-annual performance evaluations for the Shop Managers, and support them to make progress against goals
  • Create an inclusive work environment, where staff at all levels feel empowered to contribute ideas
  • Coordinate with important field partners, including District leaders
  • Be the highest-level contact person for our Agro-dealer partners, if/when they need to escalate an issue above the Shop Managers
  • Discuss weekly with the field team, digging to really understand in depth our performance results; then, weekly provide field reports to HQ including not only an explanation of current results and Goals analysis but also a summary of next steps already planned in the field
  • Identify instances where tools are needed to make the field team’s jobs easier or to improve our results. Create and field tests such materials (for example indicators collection tools, or agenda for monthly partnership meetings) – with support of their manager.
  • See themselves as the ultimate owner of their own professional development, working with their manager to grow their careers

Qualifications

We are looking for five professionals with a demonstrated experience in problem-solving and think critically. 

Strict requirements include:

  • Having people management experience and ability to motivate people, required
  • Have a bachelor’s degree or some university education level
  • Demonstrate experience managing medium to large projects, required
  • Goal and detail-oriented, with an eye to assessing where activities are not meeting expectations
  • Experience creating comprehensive implementation plans to get us to our goals
  • Fieldwork / rural work experience preferred
  • Experience getting to the cause of a problem, both by conversation, questioning and by direct observation
  • Able to propose solutions for field problems, and to broker compromises between different stakeholders groups
  • Accept to live in the district under your responsibilities for at least 2 years
  • Technical skills: Microsoft Office, including basic analysis in Excel; comfortable discussing numbers, averages, and percentages 
  • Take feedback and grow quickly
  • Excellent in Kinyarwanda and Intermediate written and verbal communicator, English

Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, start dates can vary significantly by role. We are adapting rapidly to COVID-19 and most of our team is now working remotely. Given the situation, we will appreciate your flexibility in confirming a start date.
