About One Acre Fund

Founded in 2006, One Acre Fund supplies 1 million smallholder farmers with the agricultural services they need to make their farms more productive. We provide quality farm supplies on credit, delivered within walking distance of farmers’ homes, and agricultural training to improve harvests. We measure our success by our ability to make farmers more prosperous: On average, farmers harvest 50 percent more food after working with One Acre Fund.

Job Description

The Shop Manager will manage the success of a handful of Partner Shop store locations – likely between 4 shops. Your main goal will be the success of the shop program in the sector under your responsibilities.

Your responsibilities as a Shop Manager would include:

  • Manage field execution of Shop activities, both in the field and in-store; spend a majority of days “in the field” to guarantee an understanding of our farmers, our program, and our partners
  • Connect daily work with the vision and goals of the Shop program
  • Manage officer-level staff:
  • Help officers to prioritize their work, based on performance (i.e., targets vs. actual) across a handful of priority areas
  • Provide support with work-planning and collecting of results
  • Assist officers to solve simple problems in the field
  • Evaluate officer performance and coach them to improve, so that they implement all activities as planned
  • Conduct bi-annual performance evaluations
  • Coordinate with mid-level field partners, like Agro dealers and Sector Executives
  • Train, supports and builds a relationship with Shopkeepers – so that they perform well their PShop tasks
  • Provide insightful field reports, helping not only to explain performance results but also to recommend best ways to meet field goals
  • Ensure the smooth and timely operations of their shops, by verifying officers respect required processes – including submission of sales data, requests for shop materials, and submission of payment requests
  • Help grow our team: leads in the hiring of casuals; may help HQ team to hire officers, and supports in the onboarding of new field team members
  • May help in the development or field testing of field-facing materials
  • See themselves as the ultimate owner of their own professional development, working with their manager to grow their careers.

Qualifications

We are looking for 15 exceptional professionals with 2+ years of work experience in rural areas and demonstrated passion for serving smallholder farmers to increase the impact we make to farmers through Pshops projects. 

Candidates who fit the following criteria are encouraged to apply:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Management or any related field is preferred
  • Understand short-term goals/priorities and translating them into activities.
  • Able to communicate/work together with different stakeholders for example Sector lever leaders and Agro dealers cooperative leaders
  • Have experience in the coaching field team
  • Experience in marketing and Mobilization in a rural area
  • Experience in a managing field team.
  • Write and speak Kinyarwanda and Intermediate written and verbal communicator, English
  • Have basic computer skills (MS Word and MS Excel)
  • Committed to being based in one of the sectors under their responsibilities.

Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, start dates can vary significantly by role. We are adapting rapidly to COVID-19 and most of our team is now working remotely. Given the situation, we will appreciate your flexibility in confirming a start date.
