  1. VACANCY – VCT Counselor

ALIGHT is looking for a qualified, self-driven, and committed individual to join its Team as VCT/Counselor at Nyabiheke Camp, Gatsibo District.

PRIMARY PURPOSE:

VCT counselor provides clinical care to refugees and host communities  He/She provides HIV testing and counseling services and serve in several different capacities within the nursing continuum, including IPD/OPD care, HIV/AIDs programming (in PMTCT and VCT), pharmacy management, and reproductive health services, all according to both ALIGHT and Rwanda Ministry of Health protocols and guidelines.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES.

  • Counsel and test clients for HIV, and provide them with accurate information about the infection, prevention measures, current treatments, services, options, and other resources;
  • Ensure those tested positive are linked to ARV services for follow up and initiation on treatment;
  • Work closely with high-risk persons to develop a reasonable risk reduction;
  • Educate and mobilize people of concerns on condoms use and prevent Sexually transmitted infections;
  • Counsel people suffering from HIV, their families, and friends, and provide them with accurate information about available treatment and other supports;
  • Maintain current and accurate client records as directed, collect and report relevant data about services provided, and prepare statistical reports as required;
  • Develop and maintain an in-depth awareness of available HIV/AIDS treatment options, local resources, and transmission prevention strategies;
  • To support other clinical services including IPD/OPD, pharmacy management, etc..
  • Collaborate with Community health sector in HIV/AIDS prevention mobilization, sensitization, and campaign;
  • Participate in training opportunities as required;
  • Maintain client confidentiality;
  • Interview patients to obtain information that will guide diagnosis including a physical examination of the patient while in consultation, order lab exams and record inappropriate tools, prescribe medicines and record inappropriate tools;
  • Make the decision on which patient can be referred to the medical doctor and other appropriate services;
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the ALIGHT hierarchy.

 QUALIFICATIONS;

We’re looking for the following education, technical skills, & knowledge:

  • Minimum Bachelor’s Degree in clinical psychology with the background of nursing or Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing or a close field from an accredited required;
  • Valid and current practicing license from Rwanda health profession council;
  • Significant and recent experience of 3 years in clinical Psychology with a preference in the provision of HIV counseling and testing;
  • Successfully completed recent training required for HIV/AIDS management from government or local regulatory;
  • Current counseling certification or at least 1,000 hours of counseling experience;
  • Previous experience with Development or Relief Organization in Complex emergency situations, including refugees, or community outreach;
  • Demonstrated ability to write clearly, insightfully and persuasively in English and Kinyarwanda;
  • Highly organized, self-motivated, reliable, excellent interpersonal skills;
  • Experience working in refugee situations and/or previous experience in Rwanda.
